Texas Football: Ranking 8 most hated Longhorns rivals
6. Baylor Bears
All-Time Record: 78-26-6, Texas
The Baylor Bears have one of the more lengthy and interesting rivalries in the history of the Texas football program. Texas does own a hefty series edge in the all-time rivalry against Baylor. But there were spans of time when Baylor was a serious challenger for the Longhorns.
If not for starting Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger going down with a shoulder injury last season, the victory might’ve been more decisive over Baylor than just by one possession. Nonetheless, former Texas quarterback Shane Buechele was able to seal the victory over the Bears to give the Longhorns their 78th win all-time in this meeting.
Texas did get to face a host of talented Baylor quarterbacks over the years including former Heisman winner Robert Griffin III and current starter Charlie Brewer. But Baylor had injury troubles during their best years at quarterback against the Longhorns, including with Seth Russell and Jarrett Stidham.
Baylor is just north up I-35 in Waco for the Longhorns. They’re not far away and they’ve been an annoying fan base and difficult opponent in recent memory. It seems like Baylor fans come out of nowhere to support their team full boar once they get respectable. When Baylor is down consistently, the friendly confines (now McLane Stadium) can be nearly empty.
