Texas Football: Ranking 8 most hated Longhorns rivals
4. Nebraska Cornhuskers
All-Time Record: 10-4-0, Texas
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have the fewest meetings against the Texas football program of all nine on the list. Nebraska played the Longhorns just 14 times in the history of these two storied blue blood programs. The first time these two teams met was back in 1933, when the Cornhuskers got the best of the Longhorns by the final score of 26-0.
It wasn’t until 1959 that Texas and Nebraska met on the gridiron again. In 1959 Texas head coach Darrell Royal found himself triumphent over Nebraska head coach Bill Jennings by the final score of 20-0 in Lincoln. Since then, Texas won nine of its 12 tries against the Cornhuskers, mostly when both programs were members of the Big 12.
Nebraska bolted from the Big 12 at first chance after a power struggle with the Longhorns back in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s. When Nebraska departed the Big 12 for the Big Ten in 2011, the news didn’t shock many. Texas and Nebraska were constantly in a power struggle in the Big 12.
What has to bug so many Texas fans about the Huskers is the loyalty despite not being relevant for going on 20 years. But Texas no longer gets the chance to face Nebraska on the field. The rivalry is dormant for almost as long as it is for the Longhorns against another in-state rival in College Station.
