Texas Football: 3 forgotten seniors who can still contribute
A Texas football team that won’t be relying on seniors all that much this season should be able to have three key guys contribute.
With how good the past two Texas football signing classes were, there were going to be a host of seniors that were pushed out of significant roles on the depth chart. Texas signed two straight top three ranked recruiting classes in the nation for the 2018 and 2019 cycles. While that is a good thing to have that much young depth in place for the future, but we shouldn’t forget about the veterans who can still contribute.
If nothing else, Texas needs as much depth as possible to contribute on both sides of the ball at a high level. The front seven almost completely turns over. There will still be talent among the starters, but not as much proven experience along the front seven or on the offensive line as last season.
Texas should be set in the receiving corps, at tight end, and running back. The secondary is split between three returning starters at safety and nickelback, but two new starters at cornerback. Linebacker could potentially only have one returning starter (and even that comes with an asterisk with senior Jeffrey McCulloch.
We should also mention another senior for Texas that can contribute this fall, if he stays healthy for what would seem like the first year of his collegiate career. Redshirt senior running back Kirk Johnson could miss a good portion of the early regular season slate with a shoulder injury he suffered in fall camp.
Here’s a look into the three forgotten seniors for the Texas Longhorns football program that could still contribute during the 2019 season.
