There are five already well-known Texas football players that could be reaching the spotlight of national stardom come the start of the team’s 2019 season.

We are so close to the beginning of the 2019 college football season and the kick-off of the 2019 campaign opener for Texas football. The 2019 college football regular season begins on Aug. 24, with the headlining matchup as the Florida Gators taking on first-year head coach (and former Texas assistant) Manny Diaz and the upstart Miami Hurricanes.

Texas begins its 2019 regular season on Aug. 31 at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs out of the Conference-USA. All sights will be set on how Texas looks against Louisiana Tech in the season opener before taking on the No. 6 ranked LSU Tigers in Week 2 on Sep. 7.

Moreover, Texas comes into the 2019 regular season with a No. 10 ranking in both the preseason Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Poll. LSU was also ranked at No. 6 in both preseason polls. Louisiana Tech didn’t receive votes in either. Yet, both can be difficult obstacles ahead for a top 10 ranked Texas squad that has a lot of hype stemming from the long offseason. Hype was also built from the Texas win over the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl to cap the 2018 campaign.

If Texas is to make a run at the Big 12 Championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff this fall, there needs to be breakthrough players that aren’t currently known as stars. There’s a lot of new starters, especially on the defensive side of the ball, to break in. Hopefully a lot of those players breakout.

Here’s a look at five players for the Texas Longhorns football program that are truly ready to breakout in 2019.
