Texas Football: 5 Longhorns ready to breakout in 2019
The days of Texas football fans having to get by just by watching the insane high school highlights and spring game footage of true freshman running back Jordan Whittington are almost over. While we can still appreciate what Whittington did on both sides of the ball in the 4-A Texas High School State Championship Game for Cuero last year, he is about to make waves for the Longhorns this fall.
Whittington is about as hyped up as any true freshman in the Big 12 this year. The former five-star recruit is going to star out of the backfield for Texas along with rising sophomore running back Keaontay Ingram. The potential two-headed monster out of the Texas backfield that is Ingram and Whittington is unproven yet extremely promising.
If Whittington and Ingram can combine for around 1,600-1,800 rushing yards for the Longhorns this coming season, this offense is going to skyrocket. With Ehlinger also commanding the fortunes of this ground game, the Texas offense would become almost impossible to defend consistently.
Whittington is an obvious choice among all the Longhorns in 2019 to be a breakout star. This list is mainly comprised of players that are already well-known, but have the huge potential to take their games to the next level and become nationally recognized this fall. Whittington is completely unproven as a true freshman, but could be known nationally by season’s end.
