Week 12

Opponent: Texas Tech Red Raiders

Date: Nov. 29

Location: DKR

The Thanksgiving Week matchup for Texas football boils back down to a more entertaining game than it was last year against Kansas. Texas gets to face the cross-state Big 12 foe Texas Tech Red Raiders at home to round out the 2019 regular season, and hopefully bounce back from the most confounding loss since Oklahoma State and Maryland in 2018.

But Baylor is now ranked inside the top 25 and the Longhorns are bounced from the top 10 for the first time since the 2018 season. Texas needs to bounce back against a good seven-win Texas Tech team under first-year head coach Matt Wells. Texas Tech has a good offense yet again, but the defense is much more consistent.

Wells is finding traction with sophomore quarterback Alan Bowman and standout wide receiver T.J. Vasher. Texas Tech roasts the Longhorns secondary early in this game to the tune of 225 first half passing yards. But Sterns and sophomore B.J. Foster start to take over in the third quarter. Bowman only manages 55 second half passing yards to go along with two picks.

Ingram, Whittington, and redshirt senior running back Kirk Johnson combine for a massive 275 rushing yards on the day. The Texas Tech front seven is having a hard time handling the battle-hardened and finally healthy Texas offensive line. Johnson also has a big day in terms of receiving touchdowns, with two.

Final Score: Texas 42, Texas Tech 28

Record: 10-2 (7-2 Big 12)
