Week 2

Opponent: LSU Tigers

Date: Sep. 7

Location: DKR

A win in Week 1 will mostly just build the momentum and confidence for Texas football heading into one of college football’s best non-conference games of the 2019 campaign. When the LSU Tigers come to Austin on Sep. 7, two 1-0 teams will be looking to keep their status as top 10 ranked squads.

The season opener for LSU is about of the same difficulty that the Longhorns have with Louisiana Tech. LSU faces the triple-option attack of the Georgia Southern Eagles, so that will be a solid warm-up for the defense before facing the balanced offense of the Longhorns. Both Louisiana Tech and Georgia Southern have potent ground games for Group of Five teams.

However, the tendency that Herman has for emerging for big games against ranked teams will come to a head here against head coach Ed Orgeron and the Tigers. LSU gets off to a slow start in this premier primetime showdown at DKR that sees Ehlinger post three total touchdowns in the first half.

But a stinger early in the third quarter slows Ehlinger down and senior LSU quarterback Joe Burrow finally gets off and running. That leads to a counter from LSU with three-second half touchdowns, but that falls just short on the scoreboard. LSU sees two total touchdowns from Burrow and one from running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire not come close to matching the firepower from Ehlinger and senior slot receiver Devin Duvernay, who has his breakthrough performance of the year with 150 yards and two touchdowns.

Final Score: Texas 34, LSU 28

Record: 2-0
