Week 4

Opponent: Oklahoma State Cowboys

Date: Sep. 21

Location: DKR

A 3-0 start to the regular season for Texas football ranks them well inside the AP Top 5 heading into the Big 12 opener against head coach Mike Gundy and his Oklahoma State Cowboys. Both Texas and Oklahoma State win their first three games of the 2019 campaign. But the win for Texas over LSU places them in a much brighter spotlight than the Pokes.

The main reason why this is a dangerous game for the Longhorns is how much Oklahoma State wins against them of late. Oklahoma State is starting to become a TCU-like thorn in the side of the Longhorns. But this is the opportunity Texas was looking for to turn it all around and for Herman to finally get his first win over Oklahoma State on the Forty Acres.

Oklahoma State lags behind from the start. At this point of the season, redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders has the reigns for the Pokes offense and gives this side of the ball its up and down nature for Gundy. Ehlinger takes advantage of the slow start and furthers his Heisman bid with four total touchdowns compared to just one interception.

Ingram and true freshman running back Jordan Whittington have their way with a very inexperienced Oklahoma State front seven to the tune of 220 combined rushing yards and two touchdowns. Oklahoma State does make a valiant second half comeback behind the efforts of junior wideout Tylan Wallace and redshirt sophomore running back Chuba Hubbard. But Texas hangs on for the first win over the Pokes at DKR in roughly a decade.

Final Score: Texas 48, Oklahoma State 38

Record: 4-0 (1-0 Big 12)
