Week 7

Opponent: Kansas Jayhawks

Date: Oct. 19

Location: DKR

Texas football gets to return to the friendly confines of DKR on the Forty Acres to get a break against the Kansas Jayhawks in Week 7 coming off its first loss of the 2019 season. Losing to Oklahoma hurts, but it by no means knocks the Longhorns out of the College Football Playoff race. Texas still holds the No. 8 spot in the AP Poll with Oklahoma moving into the top 3.

Kansas does come into this game with two wins, and former LSU head coach Les Miles is looking to rake in a marquee win. It will not come against the Longhorns as the Jayhawks start to fall far behind in the Big 12 standings. Kansas is going with former transfer quarterback and redshirt sophomore Miles Kendrick starting at this point.

A dynamic running back trio for the Jayhawks between Pooka Williams, Dom Williams, and Khalil Herbert, along with the dual-threat signal caller Kendrick gives them enough for two touchdowns. Those are the only points that Kansas racks up as the Texas offense explodes behind four passing touchdowns and two rushing from Ehlinger on the day.

Duvernay and Johnson have big games, but nothing matches up to the breakout game from freshman wide receiver Jake Smith. With a big lead heading into halftime, Herman and offensive coordinator Tim Beck have enough confidence to give him more second half touches. Smith gets 125 receiving yards and two scores here.

Final Score: Texas: 47, Kansas 14

Record: 6-1 (3-1 Big 12)
