Week 8

Opponent: TCU Horned Frogs

Date: Oct. 26

Location: Amon G. Carter Stadium (Fort Worth, TX)

The path for Texas football not to leave the state of Texas continues on in Week 8 against the TCU Horned Frogs. Texas already cleared the path of one Big 12 team that was a thorn in its side by knocking off Oklahoma State in the conference opener. Now TCU only stands in the way of the two stingiest teams for Texas to beat in that mid-to-high-level tier of Big 12 opponents that aren’t Oklahoma.

Texas gets the opportunity to really get back on track in Week 8 too after that disappointing Week 6 loss in the Red River Showdown to hated rival Oklahoma. TCU comes into the game coming off an up and down start to the regular season, with five wins. This could be the win that truly vaults head coach Gary Patterson and the Horned Frogs back into Big 12 Championship contention.

This is going to be a tougher TCU team for the Longhorns to knock off this season than they were last. TCU’s friendly confines of Amon G. Carter Stadium in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex helps an offense mainly featuring star wide receiver Jalen Reagor and running back Darius Anderson get off to a fast start.

Ingram and Whittington have a solid start to the game too and help Texas stay in it beyond halftime. Ehlinger and Duvernay play off that success from the ground game in the second half with a 14-point run out of the locker room in the third quarter. The TCU and Texas defenses hold strong in a low-scoring affair that sees Jeff Gladney and Sterns take it down to the wire with numerous turnovers forced each way.

Final Score: Texas 21, TCU 17

Record: 7-1 (4-1 Big 12)
