Thanks to the work done by co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Herb Hand and strength and conditioning coach Yancy McKnight, Texas football appears to be back on the up and up of developing physical tools earlier than expected. In the trenches, the Longhorns really have to make sure all their first and second year players are set to handle the strain that comes with playing this tough schedule this team is facing in 2019.

However, one player that vaulted up the depth chart through seemingly great work and development in summer workouts and fall camp is redshirt freshman offensive guard Junior Angilau. At 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds, Angilau put on enough size but should still be fleet-of-foot to handle early playing time this fall.

The former four-star recruit hailing from Salt Lake City, UT, moved from offensive tackle to guard to fill depth from the 2018 signing class. Angilau is a versatile lineman that is athletic enough to fill almost any spot along the offensive line. He’s similar to former Texas senior starting guard Elijah Rodriguez in that sense.

But as a top 10 ranked 2018 offensive tackle recruit, Angilau has a much higher ceiling than Rodriguez did. If he shows maturity in his game and is able to handle the power run offense that the Longhorns thrive on at times and the pace of play in the Big 12, he could have an incredible year for just being a freshmen lineman.
