Texas Football: 5 players whose stock is soaring ahead of 2019 season
The receiving corps should be the strength of the offense, in terms of depth and youthful talent, this fall for Texas football. I keep highlighting that fact, but going through the depth chart with all the talented first and second year wideouts should get the fan base and locker room a lot more excited about what this passing game could deliver.
Barring an elbow surgery he had earlier this month, sophomore wide receiver Brennan Eagles should be a core piece of this talented receiving corps heading into the future. Once the time is done on campus for senior star Collin Johnson and Duvernay, Eagles could be a primary target for junior quarterback Sam Ehlinger.
Once Eagles is back at full health and is able to prove himself with more chemistry between himself and Ehlinger in the passing game, his stock could skyrocket. Once the news broke that Eagles could take Duvernay’s spot at z, moving him to the slot, the realization started to dawn of how good this trio could be with Johnson.
The starting role early in the regular season at z-wide receiver for Texas could be split between redshirt senior speedster John Burt and Eagles. Ideally, the Longhorns have an easy transition of Burt passing the torch to Eagles, giving the youngster confidence, by the latter portion of the regular season.
