Texas Football: 5 thoughts after drubbing of Louisiana Tech
A confidence-inspiring win for Texas football in Week 1 came over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs with an emphatic four possession win yesterday.
The Texas football program got off on the right foot on Aug. 31 by knocking off the experienced and usually consistent Louisiana Tech Bulldogs by the final score of 45-14. Texas got going early and never really looked back with that impressive 31-point victory over a Conference-USA contender in Louisiana Tech.
Entering kick-off for the 2019 regular season for Texas in Week 1 at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, this team was a 20.5-point favorite. Texas had pretty much covered that betting line one quarter into this game. Head Texas football coach Tom Herman even got to toss the backups in late in the fourth quarter.
This was a new feeling for Texas as they finally were able to win a regular season opener under Herman’s direction. In the previous two seasons, Texas fell short against the Maryland Terrapins to open Herman’s first two campaign. Renewed confidence and more talent across the board could make for a very special year on the Forty Acres. There just something different about the way this Texas team came out of the gates compared to in previous years under Herman and former head coach Charlie Strong.
Even the end of Mack Brown’s tenure saw Texas flat line a lot out of the gates. That narrative might’ve changed for good now. But Texas can be proud of how it opened the 2019 campaign for at least a few days before the hype of Week 2 takes over.
