4. Offensive line took another step forward despite all the starter losses

Losing three starters along the offensive line usually makes for a decline in production the following season in the trenches. At least out of the gates, the Longhorns had little to no idea that usually takes part. Texas got a huge push along the offensive line to help the ground game averaged more than five yards per carry.

Pro Football Focus also rated the Longhorns offensive line as one of the 10 best in terms of Week 1 performances. They allowed just one sack on junior quarterback Sam Ehlinger and found a ton of running room for sophomore running back Keaontay Ingram.

The Longhorns got huge performances in Week 1 from redshirt sophomore left tackle Sam Cosmi and junior guard Derek Kerstetter. Redshirt freshman Junior Angilau was also very impressive in his first ever start with no pressures allowed. PFF gave Angilau the third-highest ranking among the five starters for the Longhorns against Louisiana Tech.

The steady hand that the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets graduate transfer guard Parker Braun provided Texas in this game helped out a lot. Hitting the transfer market helped out for Herman and co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Herb Hand yet again to start off the 2019 campaign.
