What are the most notable headlines for Texas football and the LSU Tigers heading into Week 2 in a premier non-conference showdown?

There’s surely going to be plenty of hype and drama surrounding the best game on the college football slate for Week 2. Texas football slid up in the AP Poll this week making the top 10 showdown against the LSU Tigers that much more exciting. Texas and LSU are in similar boats in each team’s respective conferences.

At the moment, Texas is chasing down the No. 4 ranked rival Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12. Meanwhile, LSU is trying to get to compete with the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide at the top of the SEC.

A win for Texas or LSU in this premier non-conference showdown would vault either team directly into the College Football Playoff conversation if they weren’t already.

LSU heads in this Week 2 battle as a four-point favorite over Texas. Since head Texas football coach Tom Herman usually uses the underdog mantra to his complete advantage, that betting line could be a good thing.

Kick off against LSU comes on Sep. 7 at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium under the lights at 7 p.m. ESPN’s College GameDay set will be on campus in Austin this weekend. It is also the second game in line for two big ones this weekend. The first will be the battle between the Texas A&M Aggies and defending National Champion Clemson Tigers in Death Valley. But that is a late afternoon kick-off.
