A seven-point loss to the LSU Tigers won’t eliminate the Texas football program from consideration from the College Football Playoff at all.

A devastating end to a game for Texas football that gave them plenty of chances to win was hard to swallow for fans on the Forty Acres. Texas wound up falling short in an absolute thriller on Sep. 7 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium to a strong opponent out the SEC West.

Despite a solid effort on both sides of the ball from the No. 6 ranked LSU Tigers, Texas did their best to stay in the game and pull out the win in the end. Yet, head Texas football coach Tom Herman saw his defense falter on numerous occasions against this revamped and stellar LSU offense under former New Orleans Saints offensive analyst Joe Brady and offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger.

Texas fans should be giving props to the way their offense showed out and how the LSU offense evolved over the offseason and gave the defense wearing burnt orange such a hard time yesterday. I have to give my respect to the LSU offense and the strides they’ve taken under head coach Ed Orgeron and the former Ohio State Buckeyes transfer quarterback and senior Joe Burrow.

On a day where the two biggest football program in the state of Texas lost, there’s still a lot to be hopeful for. The previously ranked No. 12 Texas A&M Aggies lost to a school in orange while the school from the SEC in gold and purple knocked off the Longhorns.

Here’s a look into the four ways/reasons why the Texas Longhorns football program still has a good shot at making the College Football Playoff this season, despite the loss to the No. 6 ranked LSU Tigers.
