1. Running back room will get healthier

A big problem for Texas football in the loss to LSU, and partly in the season opening win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, was the rushing attack (or lack thereof). There was too much on the shoulders of sophomore running back Keaontay Ingram in Week 2. And when Ingram did get open room, he messed it up at times.

The drop that Ingram had in the first half on a fourth down attempt on the goal line was a game-changer. That was the first of two missed goal line drives for the Longhorns that were both huge missed opportunities in the first quarter. Texas can’t afford to have a red zone offense that is this poor for the rest of the season.

However, what could help moving forward for the goal line offense is additional depth at running back. Texas should get back the trio that includes true freshman Jordan Whittington, junior Daniel Young, and redshirt senior Kirk Johnson, before we get too far into the Big 12 slate.

Two potentially encouraging signs were the fact that Roschon looked good in the past two weeks and Ehlinger held up well despite getting more than 25 carries to open his junior season. Roschon got 32 rushing yards on seven carries and could provide additional running back depth for this offense from here on out.
