An outside shot at the Heisman Trophy exists for a number of stars in the Big 12 at this point, including junior Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger.

After a much needed bye week, the Texas football program has its sights set on facing the No. 20 ranked Kansas State Wildcats at home on Nov. 9. That is one of three crucial games in the Big 12 this weekend that could continue to determine the fate of the two teams in the conference title game. It will be key for junior Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger to get his guys up for this showdown against Kansas State.

However, there could actually be a good number of candidates coming out of the Big 12 that find themselves in New York City by the end of the regular season as Heisman finalists. A crucial week in the Big 12 schedule could also play a role in who emerges as a Heisman finalist from this conference.

There’s one player coming out of the Texas Longhorns football program that could find himself in New York next month as a Heisman finalist. The aforementioned Ehlinger ran into a tough stretch these last two weeks, but everyone can have bad games. Shake off the Week 9 road loss to the TCU Horned Frogs, and Ehlinger could still be in good position to finish the season as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks.

Granted there are other potential Heisman finalists that could come out of the Big 12 this season. This is a pivotal time, with four regular season games remaining for most teams in this conference, for top Heisman candidates and dark horses to separate themselves from the rest of the pack.
