2. Sam Ehlinger isn’t himself right now

This game didn’t start off on the right footing at all for Ehlinger and this Texas football team. Kansas State jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter and they appeared to have all the momentum heading into halftime.

Thankfully, Ehlinger did respond with a stronger second quarter. A 21-yard passing touchdown from Ehlinger to Collin Johnson got the Longhorns back in the game and allowed a spirited third quarter comeback powered by Ingram’s second half production. But Ehlinger’s legs also did help Texas lock in the win down the stretch.

But the bigger point here is that Ehlinger doesn’t look like himself in the last two games. In the last two games combined, Ehlinger has around 575 passing yards and just three passing touchdowns compared to five interceptions. He had four picks in the loss to TCU, and finished with one score and one pick here.

Is this due to injury or just a tough stretch of defenses?

Considering Kansas State and TCU usually give the Longhorns all sorts of fits, this could be a cause of both. But this is still very concerning as the Longhorns still have big time battles remaining against Baylor and the Iowa State Cyclones, both on the road. Baylor and Iowa State both have stingy defenses that could continue the down play of Ehlinger of late.
