1. The Big 12 is downright weird this season

Last season, Texas football and Oklahoma ran the Big 12 and that’s what the conference title game came down to in the end. But the Longhorns are going to have to fight and claw to find themselves back in the Big 12 Championship Game this season.

At this point, it would take Baylor losing to both Texas and Oklahoma, along with the Longhorns winning out to get back to the Big 12 Championship Game for the second straight year. Texas also can’t slip up in those two aforementioned difficult games on the road against Baylor and Iowa State. That will be no easy task.

But the Big 12 does seem to be cannibalizing itself at this point. Just look at what happened with the teams that Texas beat and lost to thus far. Oklahoma State and Kansas State were the two big wins for the Longhorns at home. And their worst loss came to TCU. Kansas State and Oklahoma State both beat TCU.

Technically, there are four or five teams still alive in the race to land a spot in the Big 12 Title Game. But the only three that seem to have a realistic shot of getting there are Texas, Oklahoma, and Baylor. Oklahoma also looks to be the only legit College Football Playoff contender remaining. The way Baylor is barely winning games right now should signal a looming collapse when they face either Texas or Oklahoma.
