Texas Basketball: 2010’s All-Decade Longhorns Team
With a lot of choices in mind, who would be the selections for the 2010’s All-Decade Team for the Texas basketball program?
The accolades for All-Decade teams in the NBA and in college hoops are starting to drop with the 2019 calendar year soon coming to a close. And the Texas basketball program managed to churn through some of the best NBA talent seen of any college team throughout about the last 15-20 years.
With that in mind, you’d figure that Texas could put together quite the All-Decade basketball team. But Texas did ran into struggles in the latter end of former head coach Rick Barnes’ tenure on the Forty Acres. And the transition from the VCU Rams to becoming head Texas basketball coach didn’t go too smooth thus far for Shaka Smart.
In his fifth season at the helm in Austin, Smart has a record of 78-67. He also has just one NCAA Tournament appearance in the last three seasons. His coaching record at Texas is a far cry from the 163-56 record he had with VCU.
And Barnes (currently the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers) was the other head coach through this decade with Texas. He had a 402-180 record during his tenure in Austin.
Moreover, the criteria that will go into the consideration for the players selected for the All-Decade Texas team are as follows:
- All-American and All-Big 12 honors
- Career win shares
- Individual season accolades (beyond All-Big 12 and All-American honors)
- Per game numbers and efficiency
Individual accolades and career win shares are going to weigh heavier than longevity or per game averages for Texas players within the last decade. If they had a career on the Forty Acres that started previous to the last decade, but ended within the last 10 years, only this decade is taken into consideration.
NBA accomplishments don’t play into this criteria either.
Here’s a look into the 2010’s All Decade Team for the Texas Longhorns basketball program, starting back from the 2009-10 regular season.
