Texas Basketball: 2010’s All-Decade Longhorns Team
Power forward: Jonathan Holmes (2011-2015)
9.2 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 0.7 APG, 19.7 PER, 11.7 WS
Similar to why the Texas basketball program has Johnson listed as the small forward on this All-Decade Team through the 2010’s, power forward Jonathan Holmes made it here thanks to consistency and reliability night in and night out over the course of a four-year career. Holmes didn’t make that jump to the NBA Draft until his eligibility in college ran out in 2015.
The best individual season that Holmes had in terms of per game numbers in his four-year Longhorns career came during his junior campaign. He averaged 12.8 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 0.6 steals.
A nice accomplishment for Holmes in his Texas career was finishing among the top 15 players in the Big 12 in total blocks in three seasons. He was also in the top 10 in the Big 12 in defensive rating on three occasions, and in the top 10 in offensive rating in the conference twice. Solid numbers throughout the 2013-14 season earned him All-Big 12 Second Team honors.
Rebounding and blocks were the name of the game for Holmes. He finished in the top 10 in the Big 12 in offensive rebounding rate all four seasons and in the top 10 in the Big 12 in total rebounding rate three times. His career-best in offensive rebounds per game came in 2013-14, when he averaged 2.8.
Holmes has yet to play in a single NBA game, but he did sign various contracts with teams like the Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls. His most recent stint with any NBA team came with the Bulls in the Las Vegas Summer League this year.
