5. Sugar Bowl: No. 7 Baylor vs. No. 5 Georgia

Location: New Orleans, LA

Date: Jan. 1

Since the Big 12 had a lot more on the line last season when they sent the Longhorns to the Sugar Bowl to face the Dawgs, this season doesn’t seem to be as much fun. But this will be the fifth meeting in the history of these two programs. Georgia defeated Baylor in each of the four games played between these two teams.

Baylor and Georgia both had solid regular season. But it’s confounding how Georgia is still ranked No. 5 in the nation after getting thoroughly dominated by star quarterback Joe Burrow and LSU in the SEC Championship Game by a 27-point margin last weekend. This is a Georgia team that avoided a near-upset quite often in SEC play, and had a bad home loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

It will be interesting to see how the improving Baylor defense deals with junior Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm and junior stud running back D’Andre Swift. It was the same dynamic quarterback-running back duo that the Longhorns had to bottle up last season. But the speed of the Longhorns defense allowed them to take home the 28-21 win when it was all said and done.

Junior Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer is dealing with a head injury that he suffered in the first half of the Big 12 Championship Game. He isn’t a surefire starter in the Sugar Bowl. Combine that with all the injuries Georgia is dealing with at the moment, and this looks to be a pretty dull postseason meeting for a New Year’s Six Bowl game.
