3. Mike Yurcich

Current Position: Ohio State passing game coordinator

The only offensive coordinator candidate on this list that has reported interest already coming out of the Texas football program is the Ohio State passing game coordinator Yurcich. A coordinator that likes to play the numbers game up front, and bring a scheme with air raid concepts that still stays balanced with runs up the middle, would be what the Longhorns are getting in Yurcich.

There is not a lengthy history of success for Yurcich at the Division 1 coaching ranks beyond his stints with Ohio State and Oklahoma State. But he did learn under a number of impressive offensive minds that are Power Five head coaches. Oklahoma State employed him under tenured head coach Mike Gundy and Yurcich got to develop under first-year head coach Ryan Day at Ohio State.

The learning curve shouldn’t be all that steep with Yurcich. The thought of him getting to develop under yet another brilliant offensive mind that is a Power Five head coach is amazing. Herman could do great things for Yurcich in the next step in his football coaching career. It wasn’t that long ago that he was leading the Division II Shippensburg football program.

However, Yurcich helped to command the Ohio State passing game to become one of the best in the nation. Heisman finalist and second-year quarterback Justin Fields had himself a field day after transferring out from the Georgia Bulldogs program last offseason. Ohio State had the nation’s second most efficient offense and racked up more than 3.5 passing touchdowns per game through the air.
