2. Kendal Briles

Current Position: Florida State offensive coordinator

An under-the-radar candidate that popped up on a couple of hot boards for coordinator searches so far this year is the Florida State Seminoles offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kendal Briles. A mediocre season in terms of offensive production didn’t lead to much hype for Briles to maybe get a head coaching position entering the offseason.

Florida State actually finished up with the No. 57 offense in the country in terms of efficiency. They also ranked at No. 66 in the nation in terms of points per game and (29.1) and barely averaged more than 400 yards per game. But you can blame a lack of coaching consistency from the top and a very young roster on a lot of the problems that the Florida State offense had.

Since the end of his coaching run with the Big 12 foe Baylor Bears, Briles was all over the place. He had a one year stint under head coach Lane Kiffin and the Florida Atlantic Owls in 2017. He then took a position under Applewhite and the Houston program in 2018. Florida State really broke out the check books to land Briles last offseason, paying him around $800,000 annually.

The veer-and-shoot concept could come back to the Forty Acres if the Texas football program were to look in the direction of Briles to be their next offensive coordinator. Briles was trending up until he landed in Tallahassee, and getting to Austin might be a way for him to get his career back on the up swing.
