Defensive line

Vernon Broughton (Cy Ridge), 4-Star DT

The most highly touted signee along the defensive line in the 2020 Texas football recruiting class is the four-star Cy Ridge 6-foot-5 and 285 pound defensive tackle Vernon Broughton. Touted as a top 110 2020 high school prospect in the nation and a top 12 defensive tackle, Broughton should be a nice addition to the defensive line rotation in his first year or two on campus.

Prince Dorbah (Highland Park), 4-Star DE/OLB

I could put the four-star talented Highland Park defensive end/outside linebacker Prince Dorbah either on the defensive line category or at linebacker. But this stout 6-foot-3 and 210 pound edge rusher is likely to come off the edge under recently hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash when he dons that Texas uniform. Dorbah is a very unique talent and a great signing for the Longhorns.

Sawyer Goram-Welch (Longview), 3-Star DT

The latest addition to the 2020 Texas recruiting class also a former commitment of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Head coach Mike Gundy saw one of his more potent defensive commits flip to the Longhorns, and sign with them on Dec. 18, in three-star Longview 6-foot-4 and 280 pound defensive tackle Sawyer Goram-Welch.

Since the Longhorns didn’t land any true defensive end in their 2020 recruiting class thus far, this position group takes a bit of a hit in terms of how they grade out. But there’s still ample time for Ash and Herman to sign a defensive end, with a plethora of uncommitted talent still available ahead of National Signing Day.

Grade: B-
