Texas Football: Ranking every starting quarterback from the last decade
We’re taking it back to the early 2010’s for the Texas football program, and the younger brother of Colt McCoy, that had some very special wins during his time as the starting quarterback. Case McCoy got mixed appearances behind center for the Longhorns over the course of three seasons, from 2011-2013.
However, there aren’t very many Texas starting quarterbacks that had as many special moments against rivals thanks to his pure effort and grit than Case. He helped the Longhorns to beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the hated in-state rival Texas A&M Aggies in the most recent Lone Star Showdown meeting, both in 2011.
Case also got the Longhorns over the hump against Oklahoma to upset them in his final year as the starting signal caller, in 2013. Oklahoma wound up falling short of the Baylor Bears in 2013 in the race to land the Big 12 Championship. The Longhorns were even closer to winning the Big 12 Title that season than the Sooners.
The numbers that McCoy posted during his college career weren’t all that great, though. That’s why he falls in line on this list lower than the No. 3 starting quarterback of the decade. McCoy actually wrapped up his college career with negative rushing yards and just three touchdowns on the ground. He also racked up 3,689 career passing yards and 24 touchdowns, along with 20 picks.
