Texas Football: 3 OC’s who could’ve been considered over Mike Yurcich
Are there any candidates that the Texas football program missed out on before hiring Ohio State PGC Mike Yurcich to be the next offensive coordinator?
It appears that the Texas football program found their next offensive coordinator, as the Ohio State Buckeyes passing game coordinator Mike Yurcich is expected to be named as the official hire within the next week or so. Stadium’s Brett McMurphy was one of the first to report on Twitter that Yurcich could be named the next Texas offensive coordinator under head coach Tom Herman soon.
This offensive coordinator search under Herman lasted a shorter span of time than it seemed due to all the candidates that were reported to be considered for the job since Tim Beck was demoted. Beck was in the midst of his third year as the offensive coordinator under Herman.
After the regular season finale win over Texas Tech at home, Herman made the move to demote former offensive coordinator Tom Beck to just quarterbacks coach. And Herman elected to part ways with the third-year defensive coordinator Todd Orlando entirely after the win over Texas Tech.
Change along the coaching staff seemed warranted for Texas beyond Herman entering the offseason. But the faults of the defense can’t be placed entirely on Orlando’s shoulders, and the offense had problems that extended beyond Beck. There was an outcry to turnover the offensive coordinator spot for the last two years or so, and now the fans are getting what they desired.
Here’s a look into the three offensive coordinator targets that the Texas Longhorns football program and head coach Tom Herman could’ve considered instead of hiring the Ohio State passing game coordinator Mike Yurcich.
