Texas Football: 5 bold predictions for Alamo Bowl vs. Utah
1. Texas wins by a double-digit margin
In last year’s win for the Texas football program in the Sugar Bowl over head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia, the final score wasn’t indicative of how the Longhorns controlled the game on both sides of the ball. Whether it was the supposed lack of motivation from the Georgia side or the speed and talent of Texas on both sides of the ball that won them the game, it was impressive.
The Sugar Bowl last season ended with a score of 28-21 in favor of the Longhorns. But Texas had a two possession lead for much of that game. Three rushing touchdowns from Ehlinger was a great way to cap off a season where the Longhorns won 10 games, made an appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game, and beat the rival Oklahoma Sooners during the regular season.
However, Texas is facing a whole different beast now with the Utes coming in with a head coach that just doesn’t lose all that much in the postseason. Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham holds a career record of 11-2 in the postseason. Before then ranked No. 20 Utah lost to the Northwestern Wildcats, by a score of 31-20 last year in the Holiday Bowl, they held a postseason winning streak of five games.
What Texas does have working for them is a ton of motivation and fresh thinking on the coaching staff to get it done in the Alamo. The Longhorns are without both coordinators right now, and the offensive coordinator job is still open. Herman also tends to play up and down to the competition, but he got Texas looking very solid in his first two bowl games with the program.
The narrative of solid postseason play might continue for the Longhorns against the Utes this year in the Alamo Bowl.
