1. Speed and versatility fits well on Texas defense

Collins plays on the football and men’s basketball teams at Cedar Creek. And he played on both sides of the ball for the football team. His 6-foot-5 sizable frame allowed him to thrive both coming off the edge on the Cedar Creek defensive line and play at tight end. Numerous programs have recognized that too, which is likely why the Alabama Crimson Tide are pursuing him had at the moment. Alabama had a coach visit with Collins on Dec. 2.

The Texas football program would not be best served using Collins as a tight end, especially given their young and potent group at the position right now, but he could add very valuable depth at defensive end. Or Ash and the Longhorns could look to utilize Collins in a role similar to how they might use the sophomore breakthrough linebacker/edge rusher Joe Ossai.

Moreover, the thought of all the potential that Ash would have to work with in this front seven if Collins lands in Austin is mind-boggling. There would be so much speed in this group, between linebackers like Ossai, Dorbah, and even Collins developing in his system. Texas could run sideline-to-sideline with just about anyone.

Collins ran a 4.44 shuttle time and had around a 30-inch vertical leap when he tested at the Dallas Opening Regional Combine back in March 2019. His 40-yard dash time left a bit to be desired (5.00-seconds flat).

Nonetheless, the agility and closing speed that Collins brings to the table will get put on display at the All-American Bowl on Jan. 4.
