The wait is over as the Texas football program will take on the 11-2 (8-2 PAC-12) No. 11 Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl on New Year’s Eve in the Alamo Bowl.

The day is finally here. The Texas football program is set to take on the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl. New Year’s Even will be the site of multiple bowl games as we move closer and closer to the end of the college football season. One of the most significant bowl games on Dec. 31, is Texas taking on Utah in the Alamo Bowl.

Texas will be representing a Big 12 conference that is looking for redemption from a poor start to the postseason. The Oklahoma State Cowboys were taken down by the former Big 12 foe Texas A&M Aggies by the final score of 24-21 in the Texas Bowl. And the Oklahoma Sooners were absolutely dominated in the Peach Bowl by the No. 1 ranked LSU Tigers, in a College Football Playoff Semifinal game blowout that ended by a score of 63-28.

Oklahoma getting blasted out of the building in the Peach Bowl by LSU was one of the most notable blowouts of the postseason thus far.

And the other Big 12 team that has played their bowl game thus far was the Iowa State Cyclones. Iowa State was thoroughly defeated by the No. 15 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Camping World Bowl, 33-9.

That leaves the Big 12 with a record of 0-3 as the Kansas State Wildcats and Texas both take the field in bowl action on New Year’s Eve. Texas is slightly more than a one-touchdown underdog against Utah in San Antonio for tonight’s kickoff. But head Texas football coach Tom Herman usually thrives as an underdog, so we’ll see what lies ahead for his team tonight.

Here’s a look into the five reasons why the Texas Longhorns football program will upset the No. 11 Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 31.
