The Alamo Bowl went much better than expected for the Texas football program, with a gigantic 38-10 win over the No. 11 Utah Utes.

The Texas football program got the best of the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes in a dominant effort in the Alamo Bowl. Head Texas football coach Tom Herman stayed undefeated during his tenure at Texas in bowl season, now 3-0. This was maybe the most impressive win that Texas had over a legit top-15 opponent under Herman’s direction in three tries.

Utah came into this game as around a one-touchdown favorite over Texas. Coming off their rough 37-15 loss in the PAC-12 Championship Game at the hands of the Oregon Ducks, head coach Kyle Whittingham and his Utes were looking for a solid bounce back effort. Utah also came into this game with a record of 11-2 (8-2 PAC-12).

The record that Utah came into the Alamo Bowl with was much better than that of Texas. After a regular season finale win over Texas Tech at home, Texas came into the Alamo Bowl with a less than stellar record of 7-5 (5-4 Big 12).

However, any favor that Utah looked to come into the Alamo Bowl with wound up being all for naught. Texas jumped on the Utes from the get go and never really let up. Carrying a 10-0 lead into the locker room at halftime, Texas managed to keep the momentum on their side for nearly every bit of all four quarters.

The first score of the game for Utah didn’t even come until the third quarter. And Utah didn’t win any of the four quarters against Texas on New Year’s Eve.

Here’s a look into the three definitive takeaways from the Alamo Bowl as the Texas Longhorns football program knocked off the Utah Utes by the final score of 38-10.
