A big win in the Alamo Bowl over the Utah Utes moved the Texas football program to a record of 8-5 to round out the 2019 season.

A big, and much-needed, win for the Texas football program over the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl proved something for this team heading into the offseason. Texas needed a win to avoid yet another mediocre seven-win season and keep most of the pressure off head coach Tom Herman during the 2020 offseason.

Texas got the best of Utah in the Alamo Bowl by the final score of 38-10. Utah came into this game as about a one-touchdown favorite, but didn’t even get on the scoreboard in the first half. It wasn’t until more than 10 minutes into the third quarter that Utah even got on the board, with a 32-yard field goal make from kicker Jadon Redding.

The loss for Utah gives them a record of 11-3 (8-2 PAC-12) heading into the offseason. Meanwhile, Texas heads into the offseason with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12). That record still falls short of where expectations had this Texas team in the preseason. Texas was a preseason top 10 team in both the AP Poll and Coaches Poll.

Moreover, Utah gets sent into the offseason on a two-game losing streak. They lost to the Oregon Ducks in the PAC-12 Championship Game and Texas in the Alamo Bowl by a combined margin of 40 points. Head coach Kyle Whittingham had to be hoping for better out of his team that was once a College Football Playoff contender heading into their regular season finale against the Colorado Buffaloes.

Here’s a look into the position-by-position report card for the Texas Longhorns football program after their 38-10 win in the Alamo Bowl over the Utah Utes.
