The words that senior Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley had about preparing for the Texas football program in the Alamo Bowl were shaky.

It seems like the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes played the Alamo Bowl showdown against the Texas football program off as something they didn’t really care about. Senior star Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley, and First-Team All-PAC-12 honoree, Tyler Huntley had some interesting words about his team’s performance on Dec. 31 after this bad 28-point loss to Texas.

It’s hard to believe that head coach Kyle Whittingham could see his season go so far downhill so quick. Utah went from heading into their regular season finale looking to prove their worthiness for a spot in the College Football Playoff against the lowly Colorado Buffaloes, to losing two of their final three games of the year. Utah did take care of business in that matchup against Colorado, but it took a big second half effort to do so.

However, the Utes weren’t as fortunate against the Oregon Ducks in the PAC-12 Championship Game or the Texas Longhorns football program in the Alamo Bowl. Utah fell short by the final score of 37-15 in the PAC-12 Championship Game. And they were once again handled in the Alamo Bowl, against the Longhorns.

Huntley didn’t seem to think that the Longhorns were that big of deal to face during bowl season. In a post-game quote from Anwar Richardson of Orange Bloods, on his Twitter timeline, Huntley apparently stated the following.

"We took it more as a vacation than preparing for a game, and it came back to bite us."

Taking the Alamo bowl “more as a vacation than preparing for a game” is a statement that has to be partly covering up for a poor effort that the Utes came out with. Granted, Utah never really found their footing in a convincing defeat in San Antonio on New Year’s Eve by the final score of 38-10.

Moreover, Huntley finished up the Alamo Bowl going 15-of-23 passing for 126 yards and just one touchdown. He was also held to less than 40 rushing yards on the day (on more than 15 tries) and no scores on the ground.

Texas finished up the 2019 season with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12) after this Alamo Bowl win over Utah. Meanwhile the Utes rounded things out with a record of 11-3 (8-3 PAC-12), while losing two of their final three games.
