Texas Football: 4 overreactions from Alamo Bowl win over Utah
Heading into the offseason on a high-note, the Texas football program thoroughly dominated the PAC-12 runner-up Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl.
Rounding out the 2019 season the right away is what the Texas football program was able to accomplish on Dec. 31. Texas got the best of the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl on New Year’s Eve at the Alamodome in San Antonio by the final score of 38-10.
Head Texas football coach Tom Herman got the win he so desperately need to find more stability for his staff entering the offseason. Herman turned over a lot of his coaching staff after the regular season finale win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He got rid of both coordinators and both wide receivers coaches.
However, without either of the two coordinators in the Alamo Bowl that he went into the 2019 regular season with, Herman was able to knock out a recent College Football Playoff contender. Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham is also one of the best active in the nation in the postseason. Whittingham came into the Alamo Bowl with a very solid postseason career record of 11-2.
Herman did have a good postseason record as a head coach, with 3-1 between his time with Texas and the Houston Cougars. But he was able to get his fourth win of the season against one of the most underrated head coaches in the nation this year. It was also a very impressive bowl win for the second straight year. Texas knocked off the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl to round out the 2018 season.
That helped Texas to finish out the 2019 campaign with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12).
Here’s a look into the four definitive overreactions after the win in the Alamo Bowl over the Utah Utes for the Texas Longhorns football program.
