Texas Football: 4 overreactions from Alamo Bowl win over Utah
2. Keondre Coburn can takeover for this defensive line
Maybe the most impressive position group on either side of the ball all-around for the Texas football program in the Alamo Bowl was the defensive line. Texas got key contributions from four of their defensive linemen in this game. Each of those four defensive linemen all had at least one tackle for loss too.
But the stewards of all the success that the Longhorns had in the trenches against this very talented and experienced Utah offense were junior defensive end Ta’Quon Graham and redshirt freshman defensive tackle Keondre Coburn. Graham led the Texas defensive linemen in tackles for loss, with 2.5, but Coburn was a stalwart up the middle with three tackles and one for loss.
There were occasions where Coburn just completed busted the play open in Utah’s backfield. He was just too quick and strong for the experienced Utah offensive line to contain. Coburn really helped the Longhorns to that impressive total of 13 tackles for loss in this game.
The other two defensive linemen that were big for Texas in the Alamo Bowl were defensive ends Moro Ojomo and Malcolm Roach. It’s nice to see Roach leave the Forty Acres on a high-note, and hopefully he’ll at least go as a mid-to-late round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Nonethless, the future looks very bright for this Texas defensive line with how Coburn and Graham played in the Alamo Bowl.
