Texas Football: 5-Star RB target Zachary Evans pushes decision date
A local product that has an offer from the Texas football program, 5-Star RB Zachary Evans, pushed his commitment date yet again.
The 2020 Texas football recruiting class looks to be set at running back right now.The second highest-rated running back for the 2020 recruiting cycle, five-star Salpointe Catholic product Bijan Robinson, has already signed his National Letter of Intent to play for head coach Tom Herman and the Texas football program.
However, a key target that was once a big suitor for the nation’s top rated 2020 running back, North Shore product Zachary Evans, seems to keep pushing back his decision date. Evans was once a key target of the Texas Longhorns football program that looked to be a potentially program-altering talent.
But the narrative of Evans’ recruitment, at least from the Longhorns perspective, is confusing and hard to follow. Evans shockingly eliminated the Longhorns from contention among his five finalist schools. He cited their lack of national contention as a reason for eliminating Texas from his top five, but he somehow included the Texas A&M Aggies among his finalist schools.
The Under-Armour All-American Game was supposed to see Evans announce his much-awaited commitment. Two of the favorites to land his commitment seemed to be the Georgia Bulldogs and the LSU Tigers. But the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions has all 27 experts going with Georgia.
Even the Rivals FutureCast favors Georgia to land the commitment of Evans.
The recruitment of Evans has gone from confusing just for programs like the Longhorns and Aggies, to confusing for pretty much everyone. LSU was a program that was once favored to land Evans, as were the Longhorns and the Alabama Crimson Tide. But Georgia seems to be the landing spot where Evans is pegged to wind up with of late.
Evans ranks as the nation’s No. 14 2020 high school prospect, and the top running back. The 5-foot-11 and 200 pound Houston, TX, native also ranks as a top 40 high school prospect of all-time. The last two official visits he took came with Texas A&M and LSU. And the last unofficial visit he took came with Alabama. Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher also had a coach visit on Dec. 11.
The recruitment of Evans continues to promise twists and turns. Unpredictability continues to be the main narrative of his recruitment, and each of his original five finalist schools seems to be in play. And his decision seems to be made, but he just keeps delaying the official announcement. But National Signing Day comes next month, so it can’t be too long until we officially know where Evans will be taking his talents at the college level.
