Texas Basketball: 3 bold predictions for Big 12 opener vs. Baylor
On Jan. 4, the Texas basketball program will open up their Big 12 slate on the road against the talented No. 6 Baylor Bears.
The Texas basketball program opens up Big 12 play this season on Jan. 4 on the road against the No. 6 ranked Baylor Bears. As one of the most talented teams in the Big 12 this season, Baylor is hoping to upend Texas to get off and running in conference play.
Texas comes into this game with a record of 10-2, with losses to the Georgetown Hoyas and the Providence Friars. Meanwhile, Baylor holds a record of 10-1. Baylor has two wins over top 25 opponents from the non-conference slate, and their only loss came by a three-point margin at the hands of the Washington Huskies at a neutral site.
However, Baylor does come into this Big 12 opener as a sizable 8.5-point favorite over Texas at home. Baylor might be entering dangerous territory, as Texas has a win in their only try in a true road game against a top-25 opponent this season. That only try that Texas had on the road against a ranked team during the non-conference slate came over the Purdue Boilermakers.
In their last game, Texas took down the High Point Panther by the final score of 89-58 at home at the Frank Erwin Center. Meanwhile, Baylor’s last game saw them knock off Jackson State at home at the Ferrell Center by the final score of 83-57.
This should be a battle, as long as head Texas basketball coach Shaka Smart really has his team ready to go this weekend to open up the Big 12 slate. Baylor in Waco is going to be one of their most difficult games of the entire regular season schedule.
Here’s a look into the three bold predictions as the Texas Longhorns basketball program battles the Baylor Bears on the road at the Ferrell Center on Jan. 4 to open up Big 12 play.
