There’s another key member of the Texas football coaching staff that will be on his way to another job, but this one wasn’t fired or demoted.

The Texas football program saw a lot of coaching turnover heading into the offseason, mostly from Black Sunday. After Texas knocked off the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the regular season finale a little more than one month ago, head coach Tom Herman turned over a lot of his coaching staff to make the necessary changes as bowl season approached.

An extra bit of approval came the way of Herman and the Texas Longhorns football program with the dominant 38-10 win in the Alamo Bowl over the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes on Dec. 31. The Longhorns really needed a big win to at least avoid raking in another seven win season. Herman wasn’t hired at Texas to get more seven win seasons. Texas could’ve held onto former head coach Charlie Strong to achieve results like that in the late 2010’s.

At least the Longhorns went into the next decade on a high-note. But the Longhorns will also be heading into the new decade without a lot of their coaches from the 2019 season. Some of those coaching changes were definitely necessary to shake things up, like getting rid of both coordinators, but losing some of their other assistants could hurt down the road.

Texas already lost the demoted former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tim Beck to head coach Dave Doeren and the NC State Wolfpack last month. Beck will be the next offensive coordinator in Raleigh with the NC State program.

And there is yet another key former Texas assistant coach that is on his way to assuming another similar role elsewhere. Former Texas tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Derek Warehime is reportedly headed to join the New Mexico Lobos heading into the 2020 offseason.

Anwar Richardson of Orange Bloods was the first to report that Warehime was set to become an offensive coordinator at the college level for the second time in his coaching career. Warehime will now be on staff with newly hired New Mexico head coach Danny Gonzales.

Herman and the Longhorns head into the offseason with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12). Meanwhile the Lobos ended their 2019 campaign with a record of 2-10 (0-8 Mountain West). New Mexico ended their season on a nine-game losing streak.
