Texas Football: 3 biggest 2020 recruiting misses so far
Three misses stick out among the former targets of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class in the corridor between the Early Signing Period and NSD.
Almost a full month after the conclusion of the Early Signing Period, the 2020 Texas football recruiting class has their potential targets dwindling. Texas still carries a top 10 ranked 2020 recruiting class in the nation, according to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings. But that 2020 recruiting class is barely holding onto a spot in the top 10 in the nation, and is no longer in the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of the rival Oklahoma Sooners.
Oklahoma and Texas are going back and forth in the Big 12 2020 recruiting class rankings since the Early Signing Period first approached. But head coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners aren’t likely to fade off before National Signing Day since they had such an unfortunate Early Signing Period.
Head Texas football coach Tom Herman also had a bad run of his own on the recruiting trail leading up to the Early Signing Period since he turned over a lot of his coaching staff. All of the Texas coaching turnover under Herman occurred on Black Sunday after the regular season finale win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Considering the amount of volatility on the recruiting trail that can come from losing both coordinators (among a number of other assistant coaches), Texas came away relatively clean ahead of the Early Signing Period. They did lose a handful of 2020 commits, but nothing major beyond four-star wide receiver Quentin Johnston and four-star defensive end Van Fillinger.
Who else did Texas miss out on that could be impactful ahead of National Signing Day 2020?
Here’s a look into the three biggest misses among prospects for the 2020 recruiting class for the Texas Longhorns football program so far.
