A former prominent target of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class, 3-Star Bishop Dunne OLB Brennon Scott, recently decommitted from Kansas.

A once big time target of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class could be worth pursuing again. Texas three-star linebacker offeree Brennon Scott wound up committing to head coach Les Miles and the Kansas Jayhawks prior to the start of the 2019 college football season.

At one point during the 2019 offseason, the Texas Longhorns football program looked to be prioritizing the recruitment of Scott more so than most other linebackers they offered. Scott did see his recruiting ranking, and thus the stock the Longhorns had in his possible commitment, around the time of the 2019 Opening Finals.

But maybe there is a bigger program that Kansas that is now piquing the interest of Scott. He decommitted from Kansas on Jan. 8. Scott was one of the few commits in the 2020 Kansas recruiting class that didn’t sign his National Letter of Intent during the Early Signing Period last month.

Scott is originally a native of Dallas, TX, and a product of Bishop Dunne High School. He seemed to be one of the more coveted recruiting targets for head coach Tom Herman throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex for this cycle, but that quickly faded during the 2019 offseason.

Ranking as the nation’s No. 482 2020 high school prospect and the No. 21 at his position, Scott might be an outside linebacker that the Longhorns give a heavier pursuit to now. Texas is already one of the more than 30 schools to send a scholarship offer Scott’s way. Since the only true linebacker commit in the 2020 recruiting class for the Longhorns is three-star Frisco, TX, native Jaylan Ford, this wouldn’t be the worst move in the world.

Scott has around one month left to decide where he ultimately wants to commit and sign to. Texas could still be in the running if they have a linebacker spot open for him. The 6-foot-0.5 and 235 pound outside linebacker still has a fairly refined skill set that could make an impact three or four years down the road on the Forty Acres.
