Former UT S Kenny Vaccaro intercepts Lamar Jackson in Titans win
A former Texas Longhorns star safety Kenny Vaccaro put on a show in the Titans Divisional Round playoff win over the Baltimore Ravens.
A former First-Team All-Big 12 and AP All-American safety of the Texas Longhorns football program, Kenny Vaccaro of the Tennessee Titans, found himself amid a very bright national spotlight on Jan. 11. The former Longhorn Vaccaro, now a member of the Titans in the AFC South, took on the top overall regular season team in the NFL on Jan. 11 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, the Baltimore Ravens.
In that Divisional Round showdown against the Ravens, Vaccaro and the Titans completely stifled the offense of former Louisville Cardinals Heisman winning quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. Coming into this game, the Ravens had the most productive rushing attack in the NFL. But the Titans defense shut them down for three quarters.
It took the Ravens until the fourth quarter to even get their first passing touchdown of the day. Jackson was shut down for most of the day, and Vaccaro was a large reason why. Vaccaro finished up this win over the Ravens with five tackles, one pass deflection, one quarterback hit, and one interception.
That pick of Jackson came in the third quarter on a pass on the outside that was meant for Ravens wide receiver Miles Boykin. You can view that interception of Jackson, when the Titans were ahead by a score of 28-6, in the Tweet below from their official team page.
This interception was the second of the season for Vaccaro, and the first of the postseason. He was also able to reach double-digit combined tackles in the postseason thus far with the five he had on Saturday night.
His pick was one of two that Jackson had against the Titans. The Ravens turned the ball over three times, and the Titans were able to avoid turning it over a single time. That might be the biggest deciding factor in the Titans major upset win.
In the Wildcard Round last weekend, Vaccaro and the Titans pulled off yet another major upset of the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots by the final score of 20-13. This was an even more impressive effort against the 14-2 Ravens.
Next up for the Titans will either be a battle against the Kansas City Chiefs or divisional rival Houston Texans in the AFC Championship Game. Former Patriots linebacker and head coach Mike Vrabel is leading the Cinderella story of the NFL Playoffs thus far with his Titans team.
