2. Turn around the fortunes on the recruiting trail

A good bit of fortune hit for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class to retain as many commits as they did heading into the Early Signing Period. Herman had to really get all of his commitments in the 2020 recruiting class to buy into what he was selling to keep them around in the midst of all the coaching turnover along his staff.

However, Texas is still barely clinging into a spot in the top 10 in the national class rankings (per the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings). Texas currently sits at No. 10 in the national class rankings, and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Sooners. But Texas isn’t all that far behind head coach Lincoln Riley and his Sooners at this point of the 2020 cycle.

The highest rated commitment and signee in the Longhorns 2020 recruiting class is five-star Salpointe Catholic running back Bijan Robinson. But that is likely where the buck stops for the Longhorns in terms of hauling in five-star signees in this 2020 class. Five-star North Shore running back Zachary Evans likely isn’t worth the pursuit for Texas.

The Longhorns did miss out on the likes of four-star cornerback Dwight McGlothern and five-star cornerback Kelee Ringo since the Early Signing Period. Missing out on Ringo was about the most detrimental of all the big-time targets that Herman couldn’t nab for the 2020 recruiting cycle. But at least he got one five-star commit and signee in Robinson.
