Texas Football: Longhorns attempting to win 3-Star CB from Bama, UGA
One of the fastest rising targets of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class, 3-Star CB Ennis Rakestraw, also holds offers from big SEC schools.
The 2020 Texas football recruiting class will be sounded out their last round of offers this months ahead of National Signing Day. Texas locked up most of their 2020 recruiting class last month during the Early Signing Period, but there’s a few lingering positional needs that could be filled by head coach Tom Herman.
If the 2020 recruiting class for the Texas Longhorns football program is to be rounded out in solid fashion before National Signing Day next month, they need to mainly bolster the defensive side of the ball. There is a decent cornerback class in store, largely thanks to the signing of four-star Kitan Crawford.
But the Longhorns could use some added depth with that position group, especially since the transfer intentions were just announced by to-be redshirt senior cornerback Donovan Duvernay. With Duvernay’s name in the NCAA Transfer Portal, Herman and recently hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash can be confident now that pursuing another cornerback commit is the right move.

One place the Longhorns seem to be looking to fill the void at cornerback in their 2020 recruiting class is three-star unheralded Duncanville cornerback Ennis Rakestraw. This 6-foot and 170 pound aggressive defensive back now has more than 25 schools on his ever-growing offer sheet.
On Jan. 10, the Longhorns sent an official scholarship offer Rakestraw’s way to try and make the the count of cornerback commits in the 2020 recruiting class two. Crawford is the only true cornerback signee in the 2020 class, but Rakestraw is a big emerging target that gained a lot of national attention on the recruiting trail of late.
Rakestraw could be one of the hottest commodities on the recruiting trail among Power Five cornerback prospects ahead of National Signing Day 2020. He’s already received offers from the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Miami Hurricanes, Arkansas Razorbacks, Mizzou Tigers, Baylor Bears, and Michigan State Spartans, of late.
He has visits planned with Georgia and Alabama before the end of the month of January. But his next official visit will come with recently hired head coach Eliah Drinkwitz and the Mizzou program on Jan. 17.
Texas should prioritize getting Rakestraw to Austin if they can before National Signing Day. But the clock is ticking, with the Early Signing Period already in the rear view mirror.
Furthermore, Rakestraw ranks as the nation’s No. 1,307 2020 high school prospect and the No. 114 at his position. He’s not even close to being ranked among the top 100 2020 prospects in the state of Texas. But his recruiting ranking could skyrocket when the final set of 247Sports Composites are released after National Signing Day.
