2. 2019 Alamo Bowl

Result: 38-10 win over No. 11 Utah

The most recent bowl win for the Texas football program is also the second best on this list, and throughout the 2010’s. Texas got the best of Utah in the Alamo Bowl back on Dec. 31, by the final score of 38-10. Head coach Kyle Whittingham and his Utes tend to be one of the best Power Five teams in the postseason over the last 15 years.

But the narrative was much different than it was anticipated to be in this Alamo Bowl a little more than two weeks ago.

Utah star senior quarterback Tyler Huntley and senior running back Zack Moss didn’t come out in this edition of the Alamo Bowl with their best outings. Huntley described this as a game that he and Utah “took a vacation” on, and the Longhorns definitely took advantage of their attitude toward it.

Junior star Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger outplayed Huntley and the Utes to the tune of more than 270 total yards and four touchdowns, with just one interception. Ehlinger and the Texas offense had complete control against an experienced, but banged up, Utah defense. Texas also took advantage of all the injuries that Utah had on the back end.

Yet, this Alamo Bowl win over Utah helped salvage what was otherwise a pretty bad season for Herman and the Longhorns. Herman definitely needed this win heading into the 2020 offseason. It shed a positive light on the future of this program, and helped to bring some confidence and stability to the table amid all the coaching changes since the end of the 2019 regular season.
