The Texas Longhorns have their campus set in the city (Austin, TX) that was named the best college town of 2020 by WalletHub.

The city that houses the University of Texas Longhorns received high marks this month in the list of 2020’s best college towns in the United States. WalletHub ranked out the best college towns and cities in America, and Austin, TX, topped the list.

The way that WalletHub factored this list was based around three different categories. First and foremost, the “Wallet Friendliness Ranking” took into account the cost of living. Austin didn’t receive the highest marks for that, since the cost of living in the Texas capitol is pretty high. And the cost of living is ever-growing with the constant explosion of this sprawling city.

But where Austin really excelled in the WalletHub factors was their “Social Environment Ranking”. The bustling nightlife of Austin combined with the vast population of the city ranked it as the second best in this category.

The third and final category used to make this list was the “Academic & Economic Opportunities Ranking”. Austin wasn’t as prominent in that category as it was with the social aspect, but it still ranked inside the top 60 in the country.

All of these factors totaled together to give Austin the slight edge over Orlando, FL, at the top of the list. Orlando is the home of the University of Central Florida Knights.

The next highest ranked college town/city on this list in-state was Houston. It rounded out the top 30 on this list, with the social ranking keeping it high up. College Station was the third highest ranked college town/city in the state of Texas (at No. 47 on the list). That is the home of the Longhorns rival Texas A&M Aggies.

Technically, the next-highest ranked college town/city among those that houses Big 12 schools is Fort Worth. Texas Christian University is in Fort Worth. But the next true college town that houses a Big 12 school after that is Stillwater, OK, which has Oklahoma State University.
