One former Texas football player, Bobby Dillon, was announced as an inductee into the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame with the 2020 class.

While the biggest candidate of the modern era from the Texas football program that could’ve been inducted into the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame was skipped out on, there is one from the past that got the recognition. An all-time great former Texas All-American defensive back from the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, Bobby Dillon, was elected into the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame with the 2020 Centennial Class earlier this week.

The other candidate from the Texas Longhorns football program that was up for induction into the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame as part of the 2020 class is the former Kansas City Chiefs superstar running back Priest Holmes. But Holmes didn’t even make it through as a finalist among the modern candidates for the Hall-of-Fame this year.

However, Dillon was mostly elected to the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame this year due to his abilities as a ball hawking defensive back in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. Dillon had more than 50 career interceptions in the NFL. And he hauled in nine interceptions in individual seasons three times.

The NFL career of Dillon lasted from 1952-1959. In a short NFL career, Dillon racked up 52 interceptions, five of which were returned for touchdowns. He also finished with 13 career interceptions during his career on the Forty Acres.

Not all of the numbers of Dillon during his illustrious NFL and Longhorns career are likely recorded. But all you need to know for him to get elected into the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame as part of the 2020 class is more than five interceptions per season average during his NFL career.

Other accolades that Dillon received during his college and pro football career were All-Southwestern Conference honors, and four-time NFL All-Pro honors. He was also a team-captain for the Longhorns and a member of the Texas Southwestern Conference Championship team in 1950.

Dillon was elected into the Texas Hall of Honor in 1972, and was very deserving of getting into the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame in the 2020 class. There’s no doubt that he was one of the most dominant Texas defensive backs of all-time between his numbers on the Forty Acres and with the Packers in the NFL.
