2. Illinois Fighting Illini

All three of the potential landing spots on this list all either included programs that offered him out of high school or at least gave him a scout look. One of the two that offered him before he committed to the Texas football program is the Illinois Fighting Illini out of the Big Ten.

Illinois actually had a pretty good 2019 season under the direction of former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith.

Moreover, one of two programs on this list that thrived off of landing players out of the transfer portal in the last two years is Illinois. It seems like more than half of the roster of starters that the Fighting Illini had last season were out of the transfer portal. Former Michigan Wolverines quarterback Brandon Peters led the way for Illinois much of the season, and former Washington Huskies linebacker Milo Eifler led the defense.

Duvernay could be the next man up to make an impact on the Illinois defense?

He could add some speed to an Illinois defense that will have a tough road ahead during the 2020 season. This would also be a very experienced group in the Illinois defensive backfield if Duvernay goes along with the pair of senior projected starting cornerbacks Nate Hobbs and Tony Adams.

A good target among former Longhorns that put their names into the transfer portal that could make a real impact elsewhere is Duvernay to the Fighting Illini. Illinois was pretty effective in the defensive backfield last season, allowing less than 215 passing yards per game and 1.6 scores. They also forced nearly one interception per game.
