Spring camp for the Texas football program will be missing a key third-year linebacker at practice, to-be redshirt sophomore Ayodele Adeoye.

Injuries are already starting to rack up for the Texas football program entering spring camp. Texas was a fairly injured team in spring ball last year, but the first shoe to fall came on Jan. 25 with the announcement that sophomore linebacker Ayodele Adeoye will miss practice.

Head coach Tom Herman will see Adeoye likely miss the entirety of spring practice and the Orange-White Game (date still TBD) due to foot surgery. Recently hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash won’t get to settle in with one of his more important linebacker for the 2020 college football season either.

The university announced this weekend that the Texas Longhorns football program would be without Adeoye for spring ball.

Last season, Adeoye finished up with 45 total tackles, three tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, and two pass deflections. The 6-foot-1 and 250 pound former four-star recruit saw a rise to prominence thanks to an abundance of injuries and the loss of Gary Johnson and Anthony Wheeler last offseason.

Adeoye played in all 13 games last season. He was one of the few Longhorns on the defensive side of the ball that managed to play every single game. This injury-riddled Texas defense helped this team finish up with a 8-5 (5-4 Big 12) record after beating the Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl by the final score of 38-10.

This was the first real playing time for Adeoye, who miss what was his true freshman season and preserved one year of eligibility. He was solid with the playing time he was given, and was an anchor for this linebacking corps.

Texas is bringing in at least two more linebackers with their 2020 recruiting class. Four-star Highland Park outside linebacker/edge rusher Prince Dorbah and three-star Lone Star outside linebacker Jaylan Ford might be able to get additional reps with the second unit in spring camp with Adeoye out.
