One of the most talented commits in the 2021 Texas football recruiting class, 4-Star athlete Billy Bowman, was offered by Penn State on Jan. 27.

Up to this point, the 2021 Texas football recruiting class mainly held as one of the nation’s best. Despite a downturn in their results on the recruiting trail for about one or two months during the 2019 regular season, head coach Tom Herman and co. did a great job pulling together a talented group thus far for their 2021 class.

However, other blue blood college football programs are trying to pry away Herman’s best for their 2021 recruiting classes. Among those is head coach James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions. On Jan. 27, Penn State became the second Division I program this month to send a scholarship offer the way of four-star Denton-Ryan athlete and Texas commit Billy Bowman.

The other program to offer Bowman this month is the Ole Miss Rebels. Both Franklin and recently hired Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin are trying to win over this highly touted four-star Denton, TX, native Longhorns commit.

Moreover, other Penn State offers went to two teammates of Bowman at Denton-Ryan. The first of those two is 2022 cornerback Austin Jordan. And the other is 2023 outside linebacker Anthony Hill. Penn State was the lucky 13th offer to go Jordan’s way and the fourth to offer Hill. The Miami Hurricanes and Penn State are really the only significant programs to offer Hill thus far.

Head coach Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns football program had yet to offer Hill, but Jordan did have one. Highlights of Jordan’s offer sheet includes the Texas A&M Aggies, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Oklahoma Sooners, and Baylor Bears.

Even though Penn State sent a scholarship offer to Bowman, it doesn’t seem like there’s enough traction to get his commitment away from Texas at this point. Bowman ranks as the nation’s No. 82 2021 high school prospect and the No. 7 athlete. He also ranks as a top 15 prospect out of the state of Texas.

The other notable programs that offered Bowman thus far includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon Ducks, TCU Horned Frogs, and SMU Mustangs. Penn State is a little bit late to the party in terms of sending a scholarship offer to the ultra-talented 5-foot-10 and 175 pound Bowman.
